Lanxess Group is a German specialty chemicals group with its headquarters and main business operations in Cologne. Lanxess was born in 2004 as part of a strategic restructuring of the Bayer Group, which separated its chemicals business and part of its polymers business.

Lanxess is Germany's fourth-largest chemicals group by sales. The company's products focus on specialty chemicals, basic chemicals, fine chemicals, rubber and plastics. 

Lanxess traces its roots back to 1863, when the Friedrich Bayer & Co. was founded as a maker of synthetic dyes. In 2004, Bayer spun off most of its chemicals business and nearly a third of its polymers business into a separate company named Lanxess in order to focus on healthcare and nutrition. Lanxess shares have been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 31 January 2005, when Bayer issued one Lanxess share to each shareholder.
